Red Table Mountain

Proposals:
Red Table Mountain National Conservation Area
Ruedi Wilderness
Agencies: USFS
Agency Status: Recommended Wilderness (White River N.F. Forest Plan)
Counties: Eagle
Nearest City of Town: Aspen, Glenwood Springs
Location: The low elevation range dividing the lower Frying Pan and Eagle River watersheds, north of Reudi Reservoir.
Description:
Red Table Mountain looms above Ruedi Reservoir and offers a long stretch of above-timberline singletrack suitable for bicycling and hiking. From the ridgeline down to the Reservoir, the CPP proposes a Wilderness. The remainder would become a National Protection Area. This contrasts with the U.S. Forest Service proposal that would make the entire area Wilderness. That decision would close a number of excellent backcountry trails to bicycling. (It even would close some official 4WD roads, which would also be closed in CPP’s proposal).
