Little Bookcliffs

Mount Garfield, a distinctive prominence along the Bookcliffs visible from much of the Grand Valley, dominates the southern portion of this area. Directly below and south of it, Interstate 70 passes very close. A steep singletrack climbs up the cliffs from the badlands at the bottom.

A road penetrates the northern portion of Little Bookcliffs, so the BLM has drawn a complex boundary to exclude the area influenced by the road. CEC would make a much narrower non-Wilderness corridor. The CPP would instead designate a National Conservation Area with no need for such contorted boundaries.

Wild horses roam this area. NCA designation is more flexible and would management of the herd.
